About Us

MusicDotCom is a streaming service that seeks to benefit the livelihoods of the musicians that use it, while also remaining cost-effective for the listener.

Our system is simple. Instead of buying a monthly subscription to "rent" music from a corporation, listeners pay a flat fee of about 5 cents every time they listen to a song. Unlike in the corporate model, that money goes directly to the artist. No bloodsucking capitalist middleman, just direct support of the musicians you love.

5 cents may not sound like a lot, but this dramatically increases the amount of revenue a musician can make streaming their music. Spotify, for example, pays their artists anywhere from $0.003 to $0.005 per stream. This means 1 stream on MusicDotCom helps the musician about as much as 10-17 streams on a mainstream app.

Streaming has become the dominant way in which people listen to music. While being able to listen to music for much cheaper is a good thing for the consumer, big companies like Spotify and Apple music are making it harder and harder for musicians to survive in this model. This is what we hope to change with our 5 cent system.

The other important distinction our model is the idea of "paying off" a song. Once you have listened to a song enough, that song is "paid off" and free for you to listen forever on our service.

This allows the consumer to "own" the music, as was once the norm back when vinyl or CDs were the dominant medium.
